Abstract Wakhi culture, rooted in the high-mountain Pamirs across Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and China, preserves its wisdom through oral traditions such as proverbs, folktales, and songs. One notable saying is Na Haq Taat Pater, literally translated as “the son of an unjust father.” This proverb functions as a warning that dishonesty may echo for a while but cannot endure. The following folktale, though previously undocumented in written form, illustrates the proverb’s meaning and reflects the values embedded in Wakhi oral literature.
