Spring 2026 brings Pakistan a historic opportunity to plant more than trees—it is a chance to plant responsibility. This year—particularly in the climate-sensitive region of Gilgit-Baltistan—plantation campaigns can transform from ceremonial gestures into meaningful environmental action. The Plantation Campaign 2026 was formally initiated by the Forest, Parks, and Wildlife Departments of Gilgit-Baltistan and inaugurated by the Caretaker Chief Minister on February 11, 2026, in Gilgit. While such inaugurations signal institutional commitment, the true measure of success will not lie in ceremonial launches alone, but in sustained ecological outcomes. Figure 1.
