Reviewing the Ancient History of Hunza By Haji Qudratullah Beg

This historical narrative covers the rich and complex period of Hunza State, starting from the arrival of the first settlers to the Anglo-Brusho War. With minute details, Haji Qudrat ullah Beg weaves together a number of fascinating events, figures, and cultural practices, providing a thorough understanding of the region's evolution.

Then Raeesay Dynasty takes center stage, with notable figures such as Diram Harai-diramiting, Saffar Harai Kuhrukutz, Shanokutuz-Barataling, and Fulolokutuz-GanishKutuz. The dynasty's history is marked by bringing together the stories of power struggles, alliances and conflicts with neighboring regions.

The Azur Jamsheed Dynasty, also known as the Shamsher Dynasty, is explored in depth. The coronation of Azur Jamshed, murdering his own foster brother Barcha, and his eventual suicide are all discussed in wonderful detail.

The reigns of Sue Malik and Shah Malik are examined, with a focus on their contributions to the region's development, including the construction of water channels and mosques. The arrival of Kesar from Baltistan/Laddakh and his rise to power are also discussed, followed by the arrival of new rulers, including Girkiss (Sahib Khan) and Mughulot (Jamshed Khan).

The account provides valuable insight into the features of the government, including the social setup, degrees, and ranks. The role of Elchis, wars between Hunza and Nagar, and the Anglo-Brusho War are also discussed with clarity.

The author emphasizes the significant roles played the Wazirs of Hunza, including their bravery, intelligence and religious commitments. The settlers, historical background and the irrigation channels of different villages of upper, central and lower Hunza are discussed with precision in this book as a result majority of national and international authors have used this book as reference in their texts.

Throughout the book, Haji Qudratullah Beg highlights several key events, including the establishment of close friendships with Chinese officials in Yarkand, the arrival of Syed Shah Hussain Ardabeel, and the murder of Raja Abdullah Khan.

In conclusion, this historical collection is a sea of knowledge, offering a profound understanding of Hunza State's earlier days. It is an engaging, well-organized book and an essential read for historians, researchers, and anyone fascinated by the region's rich cultural heritage.
